Itinerary

  • DAY 1: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE!

You will be picked-up at from the airport or bus station and transferred to the office for a tour briefing. Here you can use the internet and bathroom facilities and there are restaurants nearby where you can have breakfast before heading off on your adventure. Note the first breakfast is not included.

Located only 15 minutes from Puerto Maldonado, is Yacumama Lake, which will be our first stop on our 3 day adventure. The lake is rich in biodiversity, surrounded by lush aguaje palm trees, providing a habitat for a variety of wildlife. Here we can observe numerous bird species, including parrots and macaws, especially during the early morning and late afternoon when these birds are most active, as well as caimans and monkeys. It is also a great place for piranha fishing, which you will have the opportunity to partake in.

After this memorable experience we will take our transport to our lodge, which will take around 40 minutes. We will check into our rooms and have time for a delicious lunch. After a good rest we will head off on our afternoon activity.

At around 4.30pm we will take part in our sunset afternoon activity where we will take a boat onto the Tambopata river to visit a “jungle beach” to see the sunset. We will also search for caimans, sloths, snakes and capybaras. We will return to the lodge at around 7.30pm/8pm where we will have dinner and then a good nights sleep.

  • DAY 2: PARROT CLAYLICK & LAGO SANDOVAL

Today we will wake up early, an after breakfast make our way to the Parrot Clay lick, locally known as a collpa, which is a natural mineral deposit along riverbanks where parrots and macaws gather to consume the exposed minerals, aiding their digestion and neutralising toxins from their diet. Witnessing this behaviour offers a unique insight into the natural habits of these vibrant birds.

From here we will head to Lake Sandoval, located in the National Reserve of Tambopata. It is the best way to see nature in its natural habitat including macaws, parrots, other bird species, monkeys, otters, caimans just to name a few. We will also have the opportunity to learn about different plant species, many which are used as natural medicines. The experience includes an easy walk along a wooden bridge for around 1 hour until we reach the lake, where we will canoe through the calm waters, observing monkeys, birds, caimans and with luck giant otters.

Lunch this day will be served at a lodge located inside the National Reserve of Tambopata, on lake Sandoval.

After soaking in this awe-inspiring display of Amazonian wildlife, we will head back to the lodge for a good rest.

As darkness falls and the jungle comes alive, the night walk begins. Guided only by the soft glow of a headlamp and the sounds of the forest, you’ll step into an entirely different world—one ruled by nocturnal creatures and mysterious rustlings in the undergrowth. Listen closely for the calls of tree frogs, the rustle of night monkeys leaping through the canopy, and the gentle buzz of insects beginning their nightly symphony.

With every step, your guide will point out hidden wonders: glowing fungi, camouflaged insects, and perhaps even a tarantula peeking from its burrow. The air is thick with humidity and anticipation, making the experience both other worldly and exhilarating.

It’s a raw, sensory dive into the Amazon’s secret nightlife—where every shadow holds a story, and every sound sparks your imagination.

We will then head back to the lodge for dinner.

After dinner we will enjoy a campfire, which is one of the most awaited activities by our visitors. Under the starry night in the jungle we will listen to local stories from our amazon. For those of you who would like to have the full immersion experience, we will then set up our tents and spend the night in the jungle! If not you are welcome to head back to the lodge for a good night sleep. Note: should you wish to camp the night in the jungle, please let us know ahead of time, so we can make the necessary preparations.

  • DAY 3: ADVENTURE DAY, MONKEY ISLAND, KAYAY & NATIVE FAMILY

Today’s activity will start early where we will take part in a canopy walkway, which will allow us to see the rainforest from a different perspective at about 30 meters above ground level. The bridges allow us to appreciate nature from a high altitude, where we will have a panoramic view of the Rio Madre de Dios. From the platforms you can observe a variety of bird species.

Next up is Zip lining! For this activity, an instructor will guide us and advise us on the use of the safety harness before starting the activity and feeling the adrenaline rush from sliding through the trees.

Lunch will be served at a local lodge during the day.

In the afternoon we will visit Monkey Island, locally known as Isla de los Monos, is a captivating sanctuary located in the Madre de Dios region of Peru’s Amazon rainforest. This island serves as a refuge for various monkey species, offering visitors a unique opportunity to observe these primates in their natural habitat.

On our way back to the lodge we will visit an indigenous family that belong to the “Matsigenka” culture. We will have the opportunity to learn about their culture; how to use bows and arrows; spin and weave cotton to make clothing called (Cushma); how to make ropes using the bark of plants; and finally they will show us their ingenuity on how to make fire from local resources.

We will then make our way back to Puerto Maldonado, arriving at around 4.30pm-5pm.

  • Note: Please let you know if you have an earlier flight so that we can make arrangements accordingly.
