Puerto Maldonado is the southernmost city in the Peruvian Amazon, nestled in the middle of the jungle, it offers all the possibilities and plans for a vacation in total contact with nature.

This full day tour includes a variety of activities to Lake Sandoval located in Tambopata National Reserve, Monkey Island, Kayaking and visit to an indigenous community. This is the perfect tour to see the most important sites on rio Madre de Dios.

Itinerary

  • Day 1
    You will be picked-up at from the airport, bus station or hotel. We will have time for breakfast in a nearby restaurant (not included) before heading off on your adventure.

    In the morning we will visit Lake Sandoval (located inside Tambopata National Reserve). It is the best way to see nature in its natural habitat including macaws, parrots, other bird species, monkeys, otters, caimans just to name a few. We will also have the opportunity to learn about different plant species, many which are used as natural medicines. The tour will take around 3 hours.

    We will head to a local lodge for lunch. After lunch you will have time to kayak or relax. We will then make our way to Monkey Island.     It originally was part of an Inka Terra Association project, with their aim being to reinsert monkeys into their natural habitat after saving them from being on the black market. Here we can see different species of monkeys and see how they have thrived since the project.

    From here we will take our boat to visit an indigenous village. We will learn about their local customs and traditions and even have the opportunity to try our hand at bow and arrow!

    Following this cultural experience we will make our way back to Puerto Maldonado where you will be dropped off downtown arriving at around 5pm.
