This is short version of the traditional Inka Trail that starts from KM104 to the majestic Inca city of Machu Picchu. This iconic hike is an unforgettable experience that will leave you with beautiful memories and a greater appreciation for the Andean Apus, Inca culture and civilization, Peruvian people and nature.

Itinerary

All tours can be done privately where you can set the departure time, add in or remove sites and most importantly go at your own pace. Please ask us for more information about availability and prices.

  • Day 1: Cusco – Kilometer 104 – Wiñaywayna
    DISTANCE: 10KM/6.2 MILES

    HIGHEST POINT: Inti Punku (Sun Gate) 2730 masl/ 8957 feet.

    We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, and travel to the train of Ollantaytambo and take the train to Km. 104, the beginning of the trek. We will hike for 3 hours approximately to the well preserved ruins of Winaywayna (2650 masl = 8694 feet.). Here you will have the opportunity to appreciate the Inca architecture including: water fountains, terraces, temples and so on. On the way, we can see beautiful waterfalls and streams. After lunch, we keep walking for another 2 hours to get the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) from where we will have a beautiful view of the Citadel of Machu Picchu, after enjoying the spectacular view of Machu Picchu we will head down to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). We will check into our Hotel and have dinner in a local restaurant. During dinner your guide will give you a briefing for the visit to Machu Picchu the next morning.

 

  • Day 2: Visit to the great citadel of the incas (Machu Picchu)
    HIGHEST POINT: 2400 masl/7874 feet.


    This day will be one of the most important and memorable days of your lives, because you will visit one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of modern times (Machu Picchu). After breakfast from our hotel, we will walk up for about 1 h 40 min, (bus up is optional) to reach Machu Picchu. We will have a two hour guided tour of the complex where our guide will explain the history of the citadel of Machu Picchu and the main places. If you wish to climb Huaynapicchu mountain or Mountain Machu Picchu (optional) please let us know ahead of time as these tickets must be purchased with anticipation and as early as possible as spaces are limited.

 

  • End
    After enjoying Machu Picchu we will head back to Aguas Calientes and take the train to Ollantaytambo, which takes around 2 hours. In Ollantaytambo our transport will be waiting for us to take us back to Cusco, where you will be dropped off either at your hotel or near to this. Please note that the return train departures can be between 2:00 pm and 8:30 pm and depends on the availability of seats at the time of booking.
